Afghan War: Operation Moshtarak

8 02 2010

Another “No shit Sherlock” moment from our very own Captain Mainwaring, Mr Ainsworth.  I’m not a military man but General William T. Sherman was:

“Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster. ”

“War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over. ”

With that in mind, this Afghan War has been going a long time and the only winners seem to consist of International Corporations.  Quagmire is the technical term for it.  And as Bobby confirms, talks are on with the Taliban ‘Commanders’ so a WWI type ending will emerge.  Troops fighting it out with blood while the ‘Generals’ of both camps sit sipping wine and swapping foul language.  Yeah, war is a breeze for some alright.

Ainsworth warns of casualties in Operation Moshtarak

BBC News, Sunday, 7 February 2010 (edited)

The offensive will involves British, American and Afghan troops.

Codenamed Operation Moshtarak – which means “together” in the Dari language – it has been described as a “softening-up operation” to clear the Taliban from its remaining strongholds in the area.

BBC security correspondent Gordon Corera said that by publicising the scale of the operation in advance, military commanders were hoping that less committed elements among the Taliban would be deterred from fighting back.

Our correspondent added that 4,000 UK service personnel were expected to take part in the the offensive – with 15,000 coalition forces in total due to be involved in the operation.

If the numbers are correct, it would dwarf the largest biggest British military operation so far in Afghanistan – Operation Panther’s Claw, which left UK 10 soldiers dead and many others seriously wounded.

Mr Ainsworth said British forces in Afghanistan were engaged in direct talks with Taliban representatives.

So far 253 UK forces personnel have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001.

This entire article seems to be a ‘softening up’ operation aimed at the British public rather than the Taliban.  And warning the Taliban of an offensive to persuade the ‘less committed’ Soldiers of Allah to flee is daft to the extreme.

The best these committed, as well as not so committed Soldiers of Allah could do for the next few months, is to keep incognito and wait for the ‘offensive’ to end.  The worst they could do is end up in ‘Paradise’ as it must be damn bare upstairs considering all the past ‘martyes’…

But…

Considering that our entire political establishment consists of professional liars, might be another one of those massive misinformation extravaganzas that will surprise us all.  I would love to ponder the possible results but I think that is something for the Taliban Toy Command to worry about.

God bless Our Boys and Lasses and I wish you all the best of luck for the journey ahead.

PS:  God damns those who deserve it.  We all pay for our sins, in this life or the next.  Now that’s Real Equality!

Sir Henry Morgan

WW2 took only six years to achieve total victory.

Compare and contrast.

As the Bastards that Be keep telling us, “this is a new type of war”.

WW2 was about one ideology wishing to maintain it’s dominance over the other.

Afghan on the other hand is all about money, be it drugs, oil or arms. I’d even bet a tenner that the News Outlets and Aid Agencies are doing ‘quite well’ out of this quagmire.

The War on Drugs cost billions every year, killing millions.
The War on Terror will be the same. A continuous threat for continuous profits.
